Mom & Dad and one extensively drugged up, post surgery Jim

The CPM (Continuous Passive Motion) machine. I'd spend 1 to 1.5 hours using this two to three times per day. Its goal is to flex the knee joint. The controller, right, would allow me to set the stop points. I would often run from zero degrees to ninty-five degrees (of knee bend). As the knee would free up I would incease the amount of bend, 100, 105, 110, 115... always trying to "push it more".

Near the end of the rental period for the unit, which was able to flex to 125 degrees, I decided to see if I could flex my knee that far. I thought it would be reasonably beyond where my knee was flexing to (100 to 115 degrees). End result - the machine broke. My knee did NOT want to bend past where it was bending (the ortho doc is still confident that 120 to 130 degrees is possible). Don't worry about me breaking my knee. I had been told to "push it" as far as I could. I also kept my thumb on the "reverse now" button just in case.

Leg fairly straight. Talking on the phone to Mary Ann

Leg gets bent to where it does not want to bend any more and my face grimmaces. Repeat, repeat, repeat...

A bit of TV did help pass the time

I often had the wheel chair or the walker laying next to my left leg. It was something to lean that leg up against. Christopher decided to join in the fun.
