Clockwise trip. Start in Minoqua, brunch in Mercer, Lunch in Hayward,
Dinner in Ironwood
Aqua Aire Motel - Minoqua WI
(right by the water tower)
Recommended - clean, well kept, nice folks
They also have a building for cycle storage - no extra charge
Somewhere between Lac Du Flambeau & Mercer WI
A snowmobile trail / road in Mercer - notice quad tracks in the rocks
on each side of the road
Looking down the trail - heading towards Mercer
Where the trail crosses over FF - just West of US-51
You can see the roughed up asphalt and missing double-yellow lines.
Driving over the path there is a noticeable 'detent'. Some path crossings
have been repaired - cut out and filled with asphalt or cement.
Ken sitting on FF where the path comes out of the woods.
Driveway to the folk's
cabin on FF
The turnaround by the cabin. Cabin is behind the trees in the
center-left of the picture.
Mission church / gift shop on Lac Courte Oreilles
Cabins just a bit farther North on the lake where we stayed -
sometime around 1982. Was fun finding them again.
During a long, hard day of bailing hay - and you just can't make it
back to the house, the field out-house does come in handy. It probably
doesn't have runnnig water - but at least satellite TV is available!
I think this is Washburn, WI
Bayfield, WI
Looking back at Bayfield?
Washburn - old bank with apprpriate car
Church
Ashland, WI
The ore filling station. Not in operation. As best I can
tell train cars are rolled out and then their bottoms are opened.
The ore then fills hoppers below the tracks. Barges pull alongside
and the chutes are lowered to transfer the ore to the barge. Click
picture for a larger size. I count 151 chutes on this side - I don't
know if the other side contains chutes.
Frontier Bar, 24 Hour Fuel (always nice when snowmobiling)
One of the trails not far from the Frontier Bar
Sign points to Potato River Falls - right about 5 miles
Pence WI.
Bar, cars lined up in the parking lot. Out back is the fuel tank
& one pump for the snowmobilers (trail runs back by the beer sign which
is also there for the trail).
